Has anyone fitted a SimonBBC electronic dizzy to their Morris?
I took forum advice to replace the static advance dizzy on my 1275 engine with a new dizzy with vacuum advance and electronic ignition in a bid to cure erratic running and cutting out (caused by Mickey Mouse fuel and duff ignition components).
However, I'm baffled by the fitting instructions - or rather the lack of them!
BBC says to connect the red wire to the positive side of the coil and the black/blue wire to the negative side.
Does this mean the new wires piggyback the existing wires connected to the coil, using the spare terminals? Surely the existing wires shouldn't be disconnected otherwise there would be no current!
But if this is the case, then why does the black/blue wire of the BBC dizzy have a female spade end connector?
Also, how do I keep the existing rev-counter in the circuit?
At the moment, the original black and white wire (1-volt) connects to the negative side of the coil, and the original white wire (9-volts) connects to the positive side via the rev-counter (wired in series). The ignition was converted to negative earth yonks ago.
Any advice would be appreciated - I'm nervous about connecting the wires the wrong way in case I frazzle the new ignition module!
Also, the BBC advice is to set the static timing visually with the 'cam' lobe pointing to the sensor when the rotor arm is pointing to number 1 cylinder, and then adjust once the engine is running. However, any tips here would be welcomed, too.
Thanks all.

This question comes up over and over again - here and on the Mini forums. You would think BBC would sort it out! I can only suggest you ask him - and suggest he makes the instructions crystal clear for future sales.

Re: SimonBBC electronic dizzy fitting - help!
Never seen one of these so idea how to set initial timing, but I would just try to put it as close to the original position as possible? As far as the wiring goes I suppose they just assumed that would be obvious? Connect the distributor to the coil as stated and make sure the white wire is left connected as that is the power supply. The white with black wire only connected to the old distributor and can be disconnected. You will see both ends of that wire sticking out of the loom!

Re: SimonBBC electronic dizzy fitting - help!
Hi,
See this post for a pic of how I connected my SimonBBC unit. Fitted it months ago and have had no problems with it since.

The blue wire goes to the - terminal but it wouldn't reach so I extended it using the white wire with the black stripe which would otherwise be redundant.
The plain white wire carries 12v and is connected to the + terminal which also has the red wire connected to it.
