wiring loom conundrum

Post by davidmiles »

I'm currently connecting up a brand new loom from ESM to my pickup project.
These are the wires from the front part of the wiring loom, they come back from under the pickup cab to the seperate rear portion of the loom. for a reason, that I haven't figured out yet, the two points where they should join up are bulleted, yet, there are four wires one side and seven the other. The seven colours on the left (toward the rear lights) are three red, two green purple tracer,, one green with red tracer, one green white tracer. the section coming from the front has four wires, one red. one green purple tracer, one green red tracer, Greewn white tracer. the singles can connect with a single bullet connector, no problem, but should the three red connect together on one. why don't they make this connected up for issue to people like me.?

Methinks that they should be connected colour to colour, the 4 reds together, etc. Having said that, you should ring them all out so you know where they're going to/coming from.
Perhaps you could contact ESM for an explanation and/or a connection diagram.

Thanks Katy, yes I agree, the meter will come in handy for tracing the origin of the red wires, two for the rear lights and one for the rear number plate. I dug out my old loom as a double check on how its set up in this particular area.[frame]Image[/frame]

the wires are connected through two and one fit bullet conectors.Though, I know the previous owner of this old spare loom had taken out wires as salvage.

Make sure you push these bullets right inside the connectors - so they don't short out against each other or on the body!

Thank you, yes, and I'll get some electrical tape around them and batch them together.

problem is, connectors oxidise and corrode, once in the car id be empted to chop the ends off and solder & heatshrink thm together tbh. permenant and problem free.

No need - solder flux gives it's own problems over time. Squirt of WD40 if worried.
