Hi all, more advice needed again !! Just painted betsy mogg with 2 pack and it's a bit orange peely can you advise me the best cutting compound to use and also how to do it, IE, how to apply the compound, by hand or with a drill or can you get a sponge to fit an angle grinder to speed things up, how long do I need to wait from painting to polishing.I'm on a very limited budget so can't afford to go out and buy polishing machines.
Thanks to you all in advance. Russ.

Re: Paint finish
You can get sponges for an angle grinder but you rally need a variable speed variety as you can end up with more compound on yourself than the car.
Re: Paint finish
A perfectly good 'polisher' is only £10/15 or so. But I'm not sure you can polish up 2 pack paint like that. Someone who knows will be along soon !

Re: Paint finish
You can polish 2 pack paint as I have done before. You are best to use two compounds coarse then a fine. Make sure you get the right compound for 2 pack, i think its G3 and G10 (Extra fine) but check at your paint place . Also its much easier with a compressor and mop. Just be careful not to put too much pressure on. Also with 2 pack paint is can take a long while to set if not done in a heated spray booth. I would wait 3 months if you did it at home. I have to say after my experience with it I went back to good old celly for the next cars I sprayed.

Re: Paint finish
Do not use angle grinder, far too fast you will end up burning paint on edges and also taking paint off edges . Get a polishing machine, same shape as angle grinder but slower speed and variable speed ,as suggested use two grades of compound and get 2 polishing heads and use one head for each grade . Depending on how much orange peel you may be able to just use compound but if very bad you will have to flat first, you will need 1500 /2000/3000 paper lower number courser grit use highest number first and see if it works but unless you know what you are doing will be hard to do. Who sprayed it ,are parts still stipped off for spraying ,might be quicker to get flatted (1000 grit ) and sprayed again preferrably in oven ,may be cheaper in the long run as all the hard work has been done .NOT THE BEST IDEA TO SPRAY 2 PACK OTHER THAN IN OVEN . Sorry for this comment if it was done in oven
Re: Paint finish
Agree with the above comments, wet block sand with 800 then 1200 then machine polish with a strong compound and head followed by a fine compound and polishing head. Take your time and work on a small area at a time. If you haven't done any machine polishing before get some advice (quick demo) from an expert first! Otherwise you will learn by your mistakes! It is all basic stuff, but does require a lot of patience in the beginning. To do it properly would take a professional around 12-16 hours so allow yourself at least double that. You could do it by hand but that would take about half a day just to do one wing! Definitely buy a machine polisher and my advice - only work with the slowest speed!
There should be no need to wait more than 24 hours with a good quality two pack. Three months for cellulose.
