Re: Cheap 20/50 Oil - where's it gone?
My local Wilkinsons had some in stock on Saturday.

You need Roys of Wroxham, a great independent supermarket. They're practically every shop in Wroxham (Norfolk) and have a few other stores as well. http://www.roys.co.uk Plenty of their own brand 20/50 in Sudbury last Saturday.
When the really cheap stuff has dried up, then I can recommend Morris Lubricants. With a name like that, it's a match made in heaven, and their Classic oils are good.

From an earlier post;
"Boyes something like 4.99 for 5 litres."
That's cheap, £11 isn't.
It seems the era of "Cheap 20/50 Oil" may be over, if you see some for less than £10 I'd snap it up.

4 pages on cheap oil, why the obsession, just buy some decent stuff and move on!

Finally found some locally the other day
. Comma 20/50, £11.98 for 5 litres.

Matt, Wilkinsons Cardiff (Colchester Avenue) still stock their own brand for about £7 / 5 litres, if you want to stock up.

For that price I'd make the effort.
I asked around several places locally and about £12 seems to be the going rate now.
Even this may look cheap in the future.

Just to let all know Silkolene are doing a 20/50 classic that's sutible for bike's and car's. Just recently got it in at the motorcycle shop that i work at and the classic bikers are using it. we're retailing it for about £10 for 4 ltrs. I've used Silkolene in Motorcycles all my working career and never had any issues with it so i'll be using it in the moggi.[frame]

Result!
I'd suggest that less than £10 for a gallon or 4.5 litres, counts as cheap, any more than that isn't cheap.
In a few years less than £20 will be cheap, and we will be trying to work out how to make our engines oil tight with thinner oil.

Re: Cheap 20/50 Oil - where's it gone?
ASDA in Cambridge have 1l bottles of their 20w/50 for £2, but didn't have any of the larger bottles they used to do. £2/l is about £9/gal, so cheapish but not amazing. Sadly I think cheap engine oil (as in £5ish/gal) is now a thing of the past. That'd be cheaper than petrol these days
