as usual for a body seal it was a struggle, but once the sealant was squeezed in and the bolts tightened, I got that high of satisfaction.[frame][/frame]

another positive move forward today, the throttle pedal is now correctly located after my mishap with the nut. The throttle cable attaches from the correct locating hole now. Ive ordered some parts to fit up the petrol tank, I only needed the rear attachment bar as I already have to front one fitted,but they only sell it as a pair, oh well, the original one is terribly pitted anyway. I ordered before 11am I wonder if the stuff comes tommorow.[frame][/frame]

yes I'm really keen to turn the engine over for the first time, just to see that it works.(the accelerator cable is still in the wrong place) I guess all I need is to connect up the plugs, battery,cambelt,HT lead, pop some fuel in the pump pipe and give it a go, Ive not done this yet. And I'm thinking its about time I checked that re-assembled engine. But it's tempered by the fact there's no Rad, no exhaust yet,so no cooling system, no compression, don't want to seize it before it even begins its new life.

You might have a problem finding a cambelt

Fit the bottom hose but have it pointing upwards, then put water in till it comes out of the thermostat.
You should be able to run it for quite a while then.

I'd suggest you run it in the open air because it's going to smell quite bad at first.

Dave, I dont know if you did it when you put it together, but setting the timing as per the manual is important, The spare engine I put in the pickup had had the distributor removed by previous owner and until I followed the instructions in the book, It just turned over never firing. It will be quite loud too without exhaust better warn the neighbours!

thanks for that info chaps, today was another clearout day, well I have a tidy garage so I may as well get a workshop to match. Looks like a car boot sale, but this is all the junk I store in there, needs to be dusted off and considered before being replaced in tidy order. Might even find bits i thought I'd lost.[frame][/frame]

one problem is worrying me about the eventual MOT, the Nuffield pressing number is obliterated, several coats of paint have filled in the numbers beyond being readable, Ive even tried doing a rubbing with a lead pencil and fine paper but nothing shows. Should I just keep "shtum" Will the examiner ignore this number or even know of its location. I have the original pickup chassis number plate that goes on the passenger door, the engine number is still the original plate on the original block.[frame][/frame]

IIRC, that number isn't the chassis number anyway. On mine it is a number denoting the body serial number from Nuffield pressings rather than a Morris chassis number.
May be wrong, though.

The frame is salvageable, I hope. I have two donor seats from a traveller, the frames are different but the seat covers will be used to cover the original frames. Once Ive wheeled them back to bare metal.

I wouldn't say an unsilenced A series engine is especially loud unless you cane it.
At tickover it's rather a pleasant burble.

I get the feeling that the neighbours are some distance away too.

oh yes, it sounds a bit like a tractor at tickover with no exhaust, but by no means deafening. i did get a head pop up over the fence when i did it though the worst thing it'll do is make a sooty mess on your engine bay floor!

i have driven my minor very briefly when the flange broke off my exhaust pipe. it was way way down on power... but it sounded like a nascar

I drove halfway up France with the exhaust busted off at the flange, sounded like a Spitfire going through sleepy French villages .
The petrol consumption was terrible though

new bits and bobs from ESM. The fuel tank sender unit, no gasket? and screws, the exhaust fitting kit. no pickup exhaust's in stock for two weeks. The brass/copper fuel line, and the tank attachment pieces[frame][/frame]

I'm guessing about the tank sender unit and float orientation, there's nothing, as usual, in the Haynes manual.[frame][/frame]
