Replacement Spark Plug Leads?

Hi there. Currently my car has the original screw in, side entry distributor cap with the leads that have the metal ends on the spark plugs (open ended) and a radio fitted. At the moment the radio crackles only when the engine is on.
I tried the plastic ended top entry cap and plastic ended spark leads from the other car and this stopped the crackle completely.
My question is this:
Can I just get the 4 plastic capped spark leads to replace mine that are for the side entry screw in distributor cap?

I cut off the metal ends and fitted screw in suppressed caps.

Ideally you need about 5000 ohms resistance between cap and the hot end of the sparkplug to cut the crackle. Either a resistive plug (eg BPR6ES instead of BP6ES) or about 12 inches of resistive plug lead (carbon cored, not copper) or a resistive plug cap (NGK make some nice ones).

If the caps you are already looking at are 5K ohms then you can use those. I guess they are the ones that screw into the cable? If so, they screw best into the original copper cored stiff leads.

I found this very interesting does the R on spark plug mean resistor ??

Indeed it does - and if used with resistive leads AND resistive caps - can give far too much resistance in the HT circuit!

Slightly confused...can I not just buy new spark plug caps? (Champion ones)

Yes - if they have resistance built-in.

SO would the part number have an R in it if this was the case? Do any MM shops have any?

A cheap amp/volt etc meter would always be worth having as a Minor owner. Set to ohms, hold the probes to each end and it would need to say 5000. Manufaturer doesn't matter but some caps are just plain copper whilst others are resistive.

Trty putting plug cap into ebay and you'll see lots of options.
