NZ Traveller Restoration

Hi All,
For those of you NOT watching the royal wedding (even in New Zealand, we cant escape the hype!) I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself to this messageboard. My name is Lance, and I have recently "inherited" a Minor Traveller that my father has finally admitted that he will never get around to finishing!
The current status of the car is that all of the bodywork has been completed, complete new wood, total rust removal and has been painted. I have a rolling chassis with LOTS of bits in boxes (looks like at least 3 donor cars worth of parts!).
My first challenge will be to get the front guards / bonnet / door gaps aligned correctly.
What I am sure of is that I will need to ask for help along the way and I would like to thank you all in advance for your tips and hints.
Well - enough for now, better get back to watching the wedding with the wife!

Hi Lance,
I'm not watching the Royal Wedding either (or at the moment). All my French neighbours, as they no longer have any royalty themselves, are already in front of their TVs - the village is very quiet !

Nice project you've got, what year is it ? Do you belong to an MM club in NZ ?

Dont know the age of it yet - my Dad is still trying to find the original papers etc - suspicious that it is a late 60's car - possibly NZ assembled. Haven't joined a club yet - only got the car on Sunday!

Welcome! very nice looking project there.

I'm sure you're meant to have finished it before you feel the urge to wash it though :lol:

It was FILTHY!! Had sat in the back corner of my fathers workshop for 5 years - had to see what it looked like under the layers of dust - discovered it was actually Old English White - not Battleship Grey!

blimey! i thought you'd resprayed it! doesn't look like the same car!

you're in the best place for any problems you come accross, a lot of things will have been asked before, and there's a very handy search box in the top right of the page to help you find stuff.

but don't hesitate to ask questions too. there's a lot of knowledgable people on here!

Here in Portugal we are also glued to the tv to watching the Royal Wedding!

BTW two fuel pumps is quite a common modification (at least for MG owners). If one fails just switch over.

Hi All,
The engine is a 1098cc (but still looking for it!) and as for the two fuel pumps? I have no idea why - are they that unreliable that you need to carry a spare? And just to clear up any confusion - thats me washing the car and my son Max leaning on the guard :D

Been a while since I've posted on here but thought I'd better do an update.
Found the engine, gearbox and diff - rebuilt all and have installed. The engine runs beautifuly and I start it each week to make sure it still goes. Starting work on rebuilding all of the suspension components now.[frame]Image[/frame]

Decided it only really needed one fuel pump (the one that actually worked!)
