Birmingham Branch Website

Post by chrisryder »

Hi there,

I'm in charge of the MMOC Birmingham Branch website, and i've just finished giving it a spring clean and a tidy up. Not that the previous webmaster didn't keep it up to date :P

anyway, i've spent a lot of late nights working out how to do everything and I want to show it off to anyone and everyone!

let me know what you think, and any improvements you can recommend. also if you find any glitches please let me know!

http://www.birmingham.mmoc.org.uk

Cheers

Looking good 8)

One thing we need on our branch website is a photo gallery. I might have to rock the boat at the next branch meeting and suggest we pay for web-space/domain name in order to incorporate more photos into the site

is the young members register too young to ask nicely for our own webpage? I'm sure myself and Katiepotatie could both work on creating and updating it :D

You don't need to pay! you can have a subdomain - eg youngmembers.mmoc.org.uk and as much space as you need. No charge! Just let me know what you want.

Hello, I am a new member and have not been to any meetings yet so have little or no knowledge about issues that regulars perhaps take for granted. I have a few comments about the website(you did invite comments) which I hope may help other new members like me.
Monthly meetings: A start/end time would be useful.
Annual Rally: Again for someone just wanting to visit timings would be useful.
Events Calendar: Only seems to go up to 2009. I know there is an 2011 Rally link showing pictures but I would have thought that this gallery should be listed on the left with the others.
Vehicles or Parts for Sale : When I clicked on these, nothing came up at all for Vehicles and only a disclaimer in Parts. I think it's unlikely but in the event of no items being offered for sale a message like ...No items currently for sale... would be useful, otherwise you don't know if it is not loading or there is nothing.
Some of the above might just be down to me but I thought you might appreciate my comments.
Thank you for what you are doing, keep up the good work. I am sure it can be a thankless task on occasions.

Regards

thankyou! i relish critisism, it's much more constructive than 'yeah that's good'

i don't know how recently you've been on the branch website, but i have already addressed some of the problems you've outlined. i'll go through them in the order you did:

in the meetings section it does say '...on the 3rd Monday of every month, from 8:00pm'.

the annual rally has now passed, i have made a dedicated section for the rally, rather than just the info that was found on the homepage. when we've organised the rally for next year, there will be more info about it!

the calendar is now gone, as it only went to 2009 and i couldn't work out how to update it!

the rally 2011 gallery is listed on the left in the galleries section. the bar on the right is just a few 'highlights'. you will also find a link to the rally 2011 gallery on the home page, and from the Annual Rally page.

there are no parts or vehicles for sale at the moment, i'll put a note in there as you suggest, thankyou! there should be a disclaimer in 'parts', 'vehicles' and 'services'. i hope you can see them in all sections!

finally, do come along to a meeting, our next is on May 16th.

Thankyou for your input :D

Sorry to be pedantic... Shouldn't it be either

or

and not both?

You managed to live through them, and learned plenty in the "school of hard knocks"

just thought i'd let you know that those pictures on the right (which i presume to be the ones you were refering to) now link to the Rally 2011 gallery. I've also made it so the pictures in the Rally 2011 gallery are clickable to open larger version of them.
