why you should'nt let someone else drive your morris

Post by cadetchris »

i was recently forced to let my brother drive lovely primrose has his little run around, at the time i knew he would break her and not really give two hoots. so after not having driven her for a few weeks, i thought i would give primrose a run.
as i drove around, the red mist descended at every new bang, knock and whiz that primrose had developed. this was made all the worse when i got home and had a look underneath.
the damage is as follows:
-severely damaged inner wing on the passengers side, where he has crushed the bump stop, this has dropped off and he has then carried on driving and repeatedly smashed the king pin into the inner wing, thus lots of damage to the top of the kingpin and causing the inner wing to crush and come apart

-partially ripped out the tie bar eye bolt from the chassis leg (covered in a previous post)

- owing to him having stupid people in the back, he has thrown the front seats forward causing the floor pans around the hinge to fracture. (maybe due to old age, but ill still blame him)

so all in all, its not going to be cheap to repair and despite my best arguments, he still is allowed to drive my beloved primrose, (even though he has written her off once, hit a white van and a ditch in a corsa, seized the engine in MY scooter, destroyed the gearbox in a rover 45 and finished off the gearbox in old primrose all in the space 4 years driving)

I'd tell the numpty to walk until he learns to have respect for other peoples possessions and generosity. :x

I don't see why you were "forced" for hand her over. Do you pay the insurance for her? If your parents still do then I suppose that would put you in a difficult position. Change the locks and give him the old set!

By who and why?
Is he fully insured at his own expense?

I'd suggest that if you must do it then it's on the basis of a hire car where he pays a damage waiver of say £500 that he will get back if the car is the same as when he got it.

Alternatively, disconnect the petrol pump and let it "break down" just down the road.
Wait until his car is fixed before you manage to cure yours.

My cousin slotted my Minor into 1st at almost 20mph instead of 3rd... ouch, but didn't seem to make the gearbox any worse... (phew)
