Surely a van with the chassis would be a much better starting point. Do a search on here, there was a thread about it recently.

Probably the most famous....

But as you specifically mention a traveller, how about this one...

Not sure what you mean exactly - do you mean take the back off a traveller and add it onto a trailer chassis? If you could be a bit more specific about what you want to do I'm sure there'll be some advice posted about whether it is do-able or not.ben_minor_63 wrote: we were thinking putting it onto a trailer etc

Re: Traveller into a camper
What do you have in mind then?
If you remove the back it won't be much of a Traveller any more.
If you just want somewhere to sleep, some curtains and an air bed should suffice.
To do more some ingenuity will be required.
The easy answer is a trailer tent with some wood trim.

Re: Traveller into a camper
At least 100 times easier, you just need to put a tow bar on the car, then the worlds your oyster.
Painting and trimming a trailer tent is a relatively easy job, and will give a better result without having to take the car off the road for months or years.

Re: Traveller into a camper
i think, to clarify, what ben's getting at (correct me if i'm wrong, ben) is putting a tow bar on the back of his 2-door, and buying a scrap donor traveler. then cutting the back off the donor trav, and using it as a -sort of- caravan.
I would suggest usaing a scrap trailer's chassis as a basis on which to mount the traveler rear - any thoughts along these lines?

Re: Traveller into a camper
Better off just to use a trailer- tent - a traveller will make a VERY small camper- not at all satisfactory- and could just en up ruining yet another perfectly good traveller
. Or, buy a pickup that has lost its pick up bed and put a small caravan on as pictured.

Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Re: Traveller into a camper
Nooo! one Snail is enough!
Why not buy a front end write off Traveller and convert it into a wood sided trailer to tow behind the Traveller. You could insert a second-hand trailer tent into it, which could open out when you want to camp. Modern trailer tents are very wide to tow behind a Morris - this one would be the right width.

That would require a lot of work, a second job and a lot of overtime too I should think.Or better still, buy a camper van!
Worst time of year to buy any of this sort of gear as everyone is having the same idea.

Re: Traveller into a camper
There is a reason for that.
Try marking out the area of the traveller floor (temporarily) in a room preferably into an alcove and with some representation of the wheel arches where you can't tread.
Then think about what you can do in that space as it's pouring with rain outside.
A trailer tent can be like a Tardis when it is opened out, living room kitchen and bedroom.
