Having just bought a clip on door mirror, and find that it is absolutely useless(£15 wasted),i wonder what my Minor friends regard as the worst, and most useless item is,that they have ever bought ??.

Re: Worst Accessory Ever ????????
I think the prize for Worst Accessory Ever goes to lead pellets that make petrol leaded again.
How to fit a clip on mirror would be a better question.

No, I took them off.Budgie wrote:Hi matt ,did you take them off or did they "fall off" if you took them off why?
I bought them as a temporary solution anyway, for while my parents were driving it.
A year later, with the rest complete, I bought a Pair of bolt on cOnvex ones.
I can't personally vouch for their reliability, as I don't ever drive it with tem fitted - I was only 16 at the time!
They're from ESM, and come complete with boxes.

Re: Worst Accessory Ever ????????
I just purchased a replacement mirror, original came off at 70mph on the M6 ! to be exact it was just hanging on as I was leaving at a exit, tried to smoothly slow down and find somewhere soft for it to land on but unfortunately it hit the kerb and well, that was that. Moral of the tale is to periodically check grub srews as vibration obviously affects the security. Mirrors themselves I find most useful, luckily I found an eact match off the net.
Worst accesssary? cup holder which just looks out of place on my minor, in the end took it off

After the Lead Pellets - I nominate the silly and dangerous headlight peaks ! I do agree about the door mirrors - hopeless field of view, and you have to switch your vision so much to glance in them. I had one many moons ago - and soon discarded it as being dangerous because of the massive blind spot. Wing mirrors are great! Mine even feather automatically at speed!

Re: Worst Accessory Ever ????????
i'm very happy with my clip on ones. i've got them 'clipped on' to the quarterlight glass, so they will only fall off if the screws come loose and the quarterlight is open, and i never open the quarterlights anyway!
i suppose i like them as they are far better than the mirrors that i did have on the wings. they were like looking at a postage stamp at arms length!
as for blocking the field of view, these clip on ones are only small, and i've got them mounted as low as possible, and they never get in the way. even if they did, i could just move my head an inch and i'd be fine! i don't know what all the fuss is about!
Worst accessory in my opinion is the standard fitment of the 'change oil filter' warning light. the only use i have found for it is to rewire it so the bulb comes on to let me know if my electric fan has come on or not.

Re: Worst Accessory Ever ????????
So - now you won't know when the oil filter becomes blocked - and your engine will be ruined.......

Re: Worst Accessory Ever ????????
i bought a spin on kit and the new filter head didnt have the switch built in!
so my engine was going to be ruined anyway
not sure how many thousands of miles it takes for the light to come on anyway, or do paper filters get clogged quickly?

Re: Worst Accessory Ever ????????
No - the paper filters last a long time without blocking - I was just yanking your chain...... Modern engines seem to be moving back to replacement paper filters - my Ford TDCi has one.

Modern oils don't create sludge like earlier ones did.
Do you have to replace the seal at the same time as the paper element Roy?

Re: Worst Accessory Ever ????????
Mirrors are at least useful, if they are in the right place and do not obstruct the view in important areas. I have a 1/4 light "clip on" Mirror on my Traveller and it is handy when overtaking on the motorway.
However, lead pellets in the petrol tank are completely useless!

What about those strips people used to attach that hung down from the rear bumper? Supposed to prevent travel sickness or something, anyone remember? The multitude of spoilers that used to be available? or those black plastic slatted things for the rear window?
Worst accessory ever? come on guys get creative.

That one made me laugh! A furry slot on the dashboard in which to insert your "key" to "start 'er up!"
