Brake light switching

hi, on near completion of my traveller project i have discovered that the brake light switch in brake line doesnt seem to work and my rear lights are on all the time

the car has recently been made neg earth and this is my last electrical fault

all indicators, main beam....etc every other electrical piece works well

please could you advise as my MOT is tuesday 9am

HELP ME MMOC YOURE MY ONLY HOPE

Disconnect one of the wires to the switch, if your brake lights go out it is the switch. You will need to fit another switch, available from all the usual suspects and eBay and the same as used on a whole host of other cars of the period including Jaguar and MG, to name just two.

Release the handbrake and push the car to make sure that you have no pressure in the braking system which is holding the brakes on.

As MP suggests - there may be pressure in the system - release a bleed nipple momentarily - a little fluid should come out. Without touching the brake pedal again - check if the brake lights are still on. Is so - then it IS the switch - or damaged wiring shorting the two switch wires.

If there is pressure still in the system and the brake lights stick on again after first use, make sure there is some free play on the brake pedal.
