How do we feel about the Aldon "Ignitor" kit? Seems to get good feedback.

Also - what about their flame thrower coil, have heard this are similar to Lucas Sports & will only have an effect at very high revs on a modified engine however Aldon say that is not the case. Will work throughout the rev range.
Practical classics put one in a merc on LPG & said it even helped with starting & running at low revs...

Be getting lots of conflicting advice so I thought I'd come here for a bit more....

I'm not really looking at these for the Mog (a 2l tuned "pinto" engine, but the principal is the same on any engine pretty much...)

Cam`s your man he uses one on his 1340 Moggie and swears by it.

It's more expensive than the Magnetronic Ignition system sold by many specialists, but it is supposed to be better and more reliable...

Had one 10 years.......... no probs 'till a wire broke. But after a quick solder job it's still running in my 1380 - Kevin!!!

Sports coils are fine and but you were correct, they are only a real benifit to a tuned engine as it needs more voltage to bridge the gap in a high compression cylinder and also if the gap is set wide for a bigger spark. Not much use in a standard car regardless of the sales pitch

This engine is pretty highly tuned (290 degree piper cam big webber carb, distributor with modified advance curve etc) & will rev to around 7k (if I can bear the noise for that long) so I guess the sports coil is probably a worthwhile upgrade...

Well, a sports coil won't make much of a difference to the parts you have just stated. An electronic ignition will remove the points bounce at high RPM. What's the compression?? If it's 10:1 or over then a sports coil and a larger spark gap might be in order. What plugs are you using?

Better take it out of the Mog and put it back in the Hood then or is it the other way round.........

Haven't aclue in either case as I didn't build the engine & the guy that did has retired... Ignitor kit on it's way anyhow...
