I miss the top of the revs on a petrol though, especially as I have had a 2 stroke before lol

Chickenjohn, you are missing something from your equation, I'm talking about a journey done @ 70mph in a good sized estate car.

Marky he mainly does ford and is expensive but does custom chips for anything .43 mpg doesnt seem a lot on a run have you cleaned the injectors air filter etc ?if you replace the injectors they have to be coded .A lot of companies do economy chips for modern diesels .

Megajolt - not much use for a diesel. 45 mpg from a Minor seems unlikely - the original road tests didn't get that..... Look to the accuracy of the odometer.

I don't think 43mpg is too bad, this thing is like a streamlined tank, it weighs the best part of 2 tons (1,555kg).
The worst thing for the fuel consumption is that it's an automatic.

Nah, RG125 FUN with a 60mm polini kit on it when I bought it. Rode it 50 miles home and dropped the power valve into the cylinder 1 mile from my house!
after that I could only find a barrel with fixed power valve, after that it was nothing till about 6k and then 3-4K of noise and wooshing.

Then I got a whole new DIS-respect for the local chav scum!



Got a little warm, me thinks!

I did once get over 70 but that was luck and nessesity (I was out of overdraft and had to get home from gatwick)

Now I'm tempted too, like Roy, for the better mpg.
I do at least 250-300 miles a week and cannot get better that 43mpg.

43 is good, our Merc 300TD ('93) does 35 to the gallon (but will run on veg oil so not so bad for the price). However she can just about keep up with polo2k when he has a boost leak on the turbo

My 1.5D Citroen AX did over 60mpg which was it's only redeeming feature!
Never had a Moggy that did more than 40mpg, but then I try not to coast down hills (Coming soon, veg oil traveller that we hope will do 60mpg)

The 205 was a bit of a weapon in its day, and unlikly to be recreated these days with the way weight is going (cant wait till the first person gets a super light weight eco machine and puts a silly engine in it

The Dimma bit (Wideness iirc) is "lurking in the wings ;)"

Merc 300TD ('93) does 35 to the gallon

my 86 300D did about the same but it managed over 42mpg on a full tank on the run to Scotland, although being a manual did help the mpg. It did a million miles per gallon on the way back (on a number of different AA trucks ) as the prop flex coupling came apart at 60mph somewhere near Elgin.
I got shot of that as my wife was learning to drive and 3 litre Merc E-class with 4 foot pedals wasn't really a learner-friendly car!

yes, mine is 2.2 tonnes! Still it will tow a minor on a trailer as if there's nothing there!
