Engine help needed after rebuild!

Good sunny afternoon!
We have been having some troubles after rebuilding our 1098. Dad has checked all he thinks but it still wont start.
On turning the handle, it feels really stiff and grippy. On turning of the key, it barely turns over despite battery being OK. It seems a problem that we cannot find. Any ideas?

Who did the re-build and what did they do?

It was Dad and it was a strip down and rebuild. My car afterwards was fine, this 'project' one isnt so easy!

What, more specifically did you do / your dad do when you re-built the engine? I.E. a complete list of the jobs done to the engine, measurements taken etc.

If it's tight - don't even try to start it..... It must turn easily (plugs out of course) by hand.......
And as above - what has been done? Crank regrind? Rebore/new pistons?

it is normally good practice to fit the crank and ensure it turns freely before fitting each conrod and making sure everything is still free! you could have got the wrong sized shells, or you could have a big end cap (or 2, or 3, or 4...) on the wrong way around causing misalignment. if it's in the car already, i'd be taking the sump off and working on it from underneath removing all the big end caps to make sure the crank can turn freely. you might want to remove the timing chain assembly to make sure the camshaft is turning freely too.
