Playing my old vinyl including Black sabbath black sabbath, The Damned Eloise 12 inch special and now Supertramp Crime of the century, there just dont seem to be album long classics like their used to be And in case you want to know Audio Technica AT312 Moving coil on a Rega Planar 2 with standard Ortofon Tube arm feeding a Sansui AU-G 50X into a pair of Eltax Symphony 6.2's backed up with a pair of Radford Bristol handbuilt cabs with Kef drivers, heaven, poor neighbours:lol: Now Hawkwind, Chronicles of the Blacksword

Lovely, I like nothing better, music listening wise than to spin up the Rega Planar 3 (with Rega Elyse cartidge, running into Creek 4040, to a pair of lovely old Royd Edens and a Wilmslow audio passive subwoofer.

There is something in the sound of vinyl that is not captured by CD. The sound of the "air" where the music was recorded is missing on CD and the low end is less convincing. I'm going to visit a mate soon who has a REALLY good turntable HiFI set up (mine sounds great but is mid- range seperates).

Favourite albums on vinyl- AC-DC highway to hell, and my led sep and Rush albums, plus of course Black Sabbath "We Sold Our Souls"

Sabbath are not hippies! That first album was awesome! Nib and evil woman are superb! Ooo and wizard.... and black Sabbath... hell the whole thing was awesome, I love how you can really hear the Birmingham in it, the whole thing sounds like the back streets of aston. Though I think vol 4 was even better if I'm honest.

But! We sold our souls was awful. You know they did a session with tom Jones in the early 90s I think it was? Try didn't record any of it though =[ is love to hear tom knock out fairies wear boots! That'd be hilarious.

"We sold or souls for rock n roll" was a "best of" from the first four sabbath albums, Phurn- nothing to do with Tom Jones. It is a double album and has all their best classic tracks on it. And my copy has the rare gatefold inner sleeve photo/cool poster of a "Goth" looking woman in a coffin! Much more Goth rock than Hippie! albeit 20 years before the Goth fashion became fashionable.

And none of the bands I mentioned have anything to do with hippies!!! You are sadly mis-informed, Irmscher sir. Besides which, we are all driving hippie era classic cars! The only smoke I inhale is A series exhaust . And Morris Minor tail-pipe emissions are perfectly legal as they pass the MOT.

I know its a best of! I hate best of albums... they don't flow well. And I know it has nothing to do with tom! As I said, they didn't record any of that session sadly. My dad has black Sabbath with a signed inlay. They used to pop into his dads cafe a lot in the early pre famous days.

While we are on Sabbath Technical Ecstacy is another of my favourites must dig it out for a play later. As for Tomita I think he is one of those thats sounds better on CD probably due to the electronicness of the material. How about Uriah Heap- Gypsy now theres a track to get into.

And of course Hawkwind though quite a lot of there albums were awfull recording quality especialy the live ones but Quark Strangness and time, hawklords, astounding sounds amazing and warrior on the edge of time were quite good pressings. A lot of the deep purple stuff seems to suffer from lack of dynamic range as well especially on CD which is a shame as the misics brilliant.

Warrior on the Edge of Time has got to be Hawkwind's best album. My band played on the same bill as them last year and we were all in awe of Dave Brock. Very aloof though.
