56 broken screen
Hi all, just like to say hello I´m a newby to the site although not to Minors. Just in the middle of restoring a 56 split screen tourer, discovering how the parts are becoming so scarce I thought I would look in here to see what other split screen kindred spirit I could find and if anythings worth a scrounge of course

Hi Matt I will have a look for a photo and scan it in, I have one of from 1968 when grandfarther was still driving it. Also I have a couple of digitals of mid restoration I will post when I can find them

Re: 56 broken screen
Hi all, I am looking for some advice on the 803cc engine which I am working on to go in my 56 tourer, not being able to find the starter motor anywhere I am going to have to buy another one my question being would a mini A-block starter fit, the two screw holes look in the picture the same, I am just having some thoughts that when once bought to discover the part on the end of the shaft that engages the fly- wheel might be different after about twenty year time traxs?? Thanks in advance for any knowledge.

Hi
Sorry can't help on starter motor for the SII - I've had a few saloons and a trav, but the engines were replaced with later A-series units.
If you count the number of teeth on the starter and the outer diameter of the gear, it should make it easier for someone to compare it to a 948 or 1098 starter (the 948 and 1098 Minor A-series use the same starter).
I don't think the ring gear was different on the early A-series, and you can definateley interchange most other engine parts.

Hi and welcome. Can I ask where you got the sound deadening (?) on the floor from. It looks like it fits very well.

Hi Lou, don´t laugh I picked up a few rolls at the local pound shop! I haven't a clue what its called or where it was manufactured as there was no packaging on. Its about a ¼“ thick so I though it should just do the job, glad you like my cutting qualities I think it looks rather tailor made too

Re: 56 broken screen
Thanks, after all this work its got to last at least another 50yrs, although I must make sure I don´t drive it to any hot countries or I´ll be leaving a waxy trail behind me
The sound proofing is to make sure my subwoofer resonance is not being lost through the micro holes accumulated in the metal after 55yrs of rusting in the Kent Country side (and to help it get through its mot of course)

Re: 56 broken screen
Hi all, is there anyone that can give me a clue as to how the front thrust spring and peg (as stated in my manual) on the main long shaft of the smooth S11 gear box should be positioned and how many should there be? I have seen more than one on a diagam in the web, but I belive that is the later model?? I have the original work shop manual quite an antique piece with amazing detail and the old black & white photography, but I am not getting something somewhere
I had it all back together with new bearings and as always with me there was the little piece left over…….So its back to the drawing board and if anyone maybe has a picture or some hint of which direction I should go in I´d be really grateful thanks in advance.
