Back on the road after being written off!

Post by mbo145 »

Horray! The traveller is back on the road after 9 months. I had a shunt up the back which pushed me onto a tow bar! So the insurance wrote it off,I bought it back after a pay out and restored the woodwork and the bodywork was straightened out by a panel beater and re sprayed. Morrie passed the mot and had it's V.I.C. test at the dvla centre (vehicle identity check) This is put on by dvla after a car is written off by the insurance company then taken off when it passes it's check.
So nice to be back on the road![frame]Image[/frame]
Note the really expensive ebay roof rack!
My 1956 Series 11 Traveller! Bought when I was 17 (1985)....sold 6 years (1991) later......bought back 9 years after that! (2000) With 6 different owners in the middle, what a lucky boy I am!

The insurance nearly covered it, but I had more work completed while it was at the spray shop! So it probably would have done just. Make sure your car value is up to date as you need to purchase the car back off the insurance company after it is written off, be aware you do not get the full amount of the agreed value if you keep the car, if it has to be scrapped then you do, I was pleased mine was able to be mended! :D[frame]Image[/frame]

Thanks everyone! Yes Ben Morrie is a daily driver, I was doing 1000 miles a month up untill the accident, I think I will carry on daily use unless we have ice and salt again! :D

Hi has your insurance premiums increased? I ask because a friend of mine bought a cat ‘C’ ford Ka write off that had been repaired, and the insurance was crazy money. The INS Company said it was more money to insure a car that had previously been wrote off.

It is insured with Footman James, the accident happened just after I had renewed the insurance but it was still on the last years policy. I asked Footman James if it would make a difference after the car was repaired to the premium and they said it wouldn't do so, also once the catagory c has been repaired and the car has had its VIC (vehicle identity check) removed then it shouldn't make any difference. Did your friend try to insure the car before the repairs had been done or the check completed? I hope I will be ok when the term runs out in August!

Car looks superb! Well done on getting her repaired and back on the road.

My Traveller was hit in late 2008 and had to be repaired in early 2009 - but was not written off. Not may fault, and luckily for me, it was only panel damage, not structural. I know how much hassle it is to get a car repaired.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

No he had a Similar car that had failed it’s MOT badly. He was offer the same type of car but a cat c accident repair at a very good price.
However when he took out a new insurance policy and declared the car had been a cat C accident respire, the cost of the insurance outweighed priced the car. He then had to sell his car as he could not afford the extra insurance. I know “he should have checked with the insurance first”
I was interested if the same applied to classic cars???
