i am driving my car to and from scotland in may. 550 mile round trip from here. i intend to do it on less than 4 tanks of fuel if i can. i shall not be using anything other than unleaded. (diesel won't work anyway). gentle A roads is the way.
550 miles on 4 tanks, or 1100 on 4 tanks? that's either 137.5 miles per tank or 275 miles per tank. which sounds like very few or very many!
i fill my minor up every 200 miles, whether it needs it or not. i ran it dry once and got 224 out of it. that is the later tank though, however many gallons it holds.
that'd be pretty much 30 litres if you include the filler neck
i think the most i've ever got in there is 28 litres. and i'd been on Empty according to the gauge for 30 miles looking for somewhere to fill up!
i recon if dellerie takes it easy it could be doable on 6 tanks, maybe 5 if feeling brave. i carry 2 gallons in the boot to keep my mind at ease, and to help fellow motorists if need be.

my estimation's...... i should get to dundee on 2 tanks if i travel around 50mph. thats 550 ish miles.
At 50mph I'd expect to be getting better than 40 mpg, unless you are taking a grand piano or a load of paving slabs with you.
Fill the tank each time, get the petrol station to give you a receipt each time and write the number of miles from the odometer on the receipt.
Then when you get home top up the tank and do some light maths to see what mpg you got.
