Speedos stopped working

Post by tedlogan »

Hi my morris travellers speedo has stopped working! Both ends of the cable appear to be firmly connected, any advice?

First check if the inner cable is in one piece. Disconnect both ends and pull the inner out or get someone to look at the speedo end and see if it turns when you spin the gearbox end with your fingers.

cable snapped? both ends can be connected but the inner could have broken. disconnect one end (whichever is easiest). If you disconnect the speedo head end and try to turn the inner, you should meet some resistance as the speedo drive in the gearbox won't turn. if you disconnect the gearbox end instead, and turn the inner, you (or someone in the car) should see some movement from the needle. That's where i'd be starting!

Test the speedo with a (reverse running) electric drill.
