connecting oil and temp gauges to voltage regulator

Electric gauges. Hi there do the wires go up behind speedometers from underneath where the others are, under steering wheel? What connections are behind the speedo? Do I need to attach spades to the wires? What wires are needed from each gauge? Thanks.

right, no idea about the Oil, Gauge, but regarding the temp, as you probably know you will need three wires. one for the light, one for the temp sender, and on to the voltage stabiliser.

At the top of your(black) speedo there is a small box with some Green? wires coming out of it. The wire for the power(to the voltage stabiliser) needs a spade and you need to connect it to the spare terminal next to to the fuel gauge wire (green, leading to the fuel gauge).

Temp sender wire is obvious, lead it to the sender in the block, lights one is simple too, just add it into the dashboard slider switch, or splice it into one of the instrument lights.

Wires, it doesn't matter where you put them, as long as the Power wire to the voltage stabiliser goes behind the speedo, it doesn't matter. Minors were never fitted with them as standard, so it doesn't matter.

regarding oil, I imagine it is the same process, but i'm not sure so I won't say.

i have two greens from the main spades, one light and dark green.

two wires from the light bulb sender, one black one red.

post up a picture of your stabiliser on the back of your speedo if your not sure, it is hard to explain, i had to go through all this when mine was wires in wrong.

Hello Xpress,

the light green is the regulated voltage which you use for the temperature gauge (assuming a standard Smith's gauge), the oil pressure gauge doesn't use this regulated supply, you can tap off the green feed to the voltage regulator for that.

not necessarily, aftermarket ones may not and funnily, even though a Smith's gauge the Mk 2 Jaguar doesn't either.
Not that Mk 2 oil pressure gauges are held in high regard.

Hi I have just posted a topic in usefull tips that might help with some of the issues in this article hope it helps. PS you dont have to modernise the regulator. But I have bought the component in the diagram which I shall make up some time and test, only cost me 99pence from Maplins. John
