floor panel attempt #1

Post by mrmorrisminor »

I was reading some of the posts by Taupe on fabricating panels and was inspired to have a go.......[frame]Image[/frame]

I started by creating a wooden former of the rear floor panel. I made a full rear floor pattern for future use.....[frame]Image[/frame]

Then cut the sheet to the approx size of the repair needed, marking the indentations to be fabricated[frame]Image[/frame]

It is far from perfect but it's my first go at proper panel beating.... we are on a very restricted budget for this resto (my cousin's first car) so thought it was the perfect time to have a go :D

Hey Mrmorris minor

Looks good to me too :D :D :D :D :D

Tip if you want to reduce the small bumps and ripples - place a metal bar in the radius and tap any high spots lightly with your hammer.

Excellent work and will be nice and strong.

Good effort!

BTW, you can make your own tool to stamp out these indentations by taking an old, wide bladed chisel and rounding the edge with a grinder. This will give a sharper/ neater line at the edge of each indentation.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

If you could borrow a wheeling machine for 10 minutes then you'd have an awesome finish. Gets all of the dents out of the panels. You can borrow mine but I'm in cardiff!

This may seem a bit silly but why do the floor panels have these indentations?

Rob

The indentations add a lot of strength and reduce drumming.
