Paint Mixing.........

Hi, Would appreciate any advice on mixing quantities for cellulose paints. This is for top coats. How much high gloss thinners do you use? And do you put in a splash of anti-bloomers as well?

Use thinners to paint 1:1, with the final coats being more like 75% thinners (sprayed on carefully to avoid runs!) to get a good gloss finish.

As for anti bloom thinners, if you are spraying in slightly cold conditions, then use anti bloom thinner. If warm (20C or above) then just use top gloss thinners for the top coat. Really though you re better off painting on a hot day, 25C being ideal, or warm your work space before spraying to 25C for best results.

Agreed, 1:1. Spraying in cold weather isn't that much of a problem. Do not be surprised if you get a dull finish.
The paint will have covered ok, it will just mean a bit of time with rubbing paste to get a good shine.

Yes, and another problem may be that the paint is more susceptible to runs- as cellulose thinners take longer to evaporate the lower the temperature.

Yep, agree with that. Don't use a thin mix in cold weather, It will run...been there, done that...learn from your mistakes. You will also have to wait longer for the thinner to evaporate before you can put on the next coat.

Ok thanks for the tips. I'm a decorator by trade and when you buy paint there is a massive diff between dulux and some cheap nasty paint. Is that the same with celly? Or is it all pretty much the same?

Get it from your local automotive paint factors- they should sell a decent brand such as Lechler, or similar.
