JetSet

Post by sloopjohnrb »

I'm ready to fit a new carb jet to 948 cc, 1962 4 door.
I've set the float level, correctly fitted new needle, but have heard so much about: "centring the jet properly."
Pleae could someone advise me how to go about fitting and centring the jet?
Best wishes

Hello John,

above the mixture adjusting nut is another nut. This clamps the jet tube in position, the jet tube has some clearance in the carburettor body. To centre the jet, slacken the clamping nut, and screw the mixture nut all the way up. Press down on the piston top with a long bolt or screwdriver then tighten the clamping nut. Unscrew the mixture nut two full turns and you should be ready to go. Just lift the piston up and check that it drops smoothly and comes to a stop with a 'click'

Lift the piston and if it drops smoothly with a clunk then the jet is centred. If not then follow Alec's instructions.
