evening all. i have a headache!
on the coil, i have a plus and minus. which would be the CB and which is the SW?
the wire from my loom goes to the minus. a wire goes from the plus to the side of the dizzy. the car is negative earth, as i have a alternator fitted.

Re: ignition coil
If it's negative earth then - goes to the points.

Re: ignition coil
Hello Delerie,
in this case CB is - ve and sw is + ve.
Older coils that were marked CB and Sw were in the positive earth era, so were opposite to what I first said. Just forget about that protocol and always connect the distributor to the same polarity as the battery earth, in your case - ve.

Re: ignition coil
Hello Delerie,
yes, that is incorrect. Just swap the two wires so the white\black distributor wire is in the - Ve and the white ignition feed is on the + ve. This will give a stronger spark at the plugs.

Re: ignition coil
thankyou. that seems to answer my question. so it still works at present the way i have it, but i'd get a better spark if the wire from the loom, went to the plus. would this also explain why i have changed my points and condesor a few times?Alec wrote:Hello Delerie,

Re: ignition coil
YES!
Your car was wrong way round - CB = Contact Breaker (the 'points') but that was when the car was +ve earth (as Alec has patiently explained already....) so NOW your car is -ve earth - you must connect SW to the points.....
