anyone used bars leaks?

Hi has anyone here used bars leaks pellet in the Morris is it safe to do so will it not clog anything I have a drip at bottom of water pump would like to do it but would a bars leak sort it for now. Thanks.

Far better to make a proper repair!!! These "bars leaks" products are nothing more than a get you home bodge.

Sounds like you need to fit a new water pump or at the very least a new gasket.

I used it as a get-you-home fix when my radiator got holed once. It got me home, then to and from work the next day after which it leaked again - quite spectacularly as I recall.

Quite a few people I know recommend K-Seal.

I've used Rad-Weld 4 or 5 with either mixed or very good results, but it's not a permanent or good repair!
It can block up holes that are not meant to be blocked, therefore it comes with a risk - this is more relevant on modern engines and the results can be disasterous, albeit extremely rare. (I've seen a cooling system at something like >100psi when the rad cap vent tube got blocked - that was pretty dangerous as we had to discharge it in the desert and didn't want our faces burnt!)

Personally I would avoid using it unless you are REALLY desperate or the car is due to be scrapped (I'd rather top up the water 4 times a day / every half hour when driving). If the leak is so bad that carrying a few gallons of water and stopping every 30 mins isn't enough then it's certainly worth a shot.

For a Minor 1000 water pump leak - either it's the gasket, the bypass hose or the shaft seal - have a look in daylight to identify which one as you'll need different parts depending on what's wrong.

Removing the water pump is:
Remove 2 hose clips & 4 bolts to pull the rad out
Remove 4 hex screws for the pulley / fan
Remove 4 hex bolts + a large a medium and a small hose clip to get the pump off and bottom hose off.

If the seal face is corroded, it can be fixed using gasket gue, but it's best to use a new pump.
If the stub connection for the hose or bypass hose is rotted away - best to use a new pump & new bypass hose.
If it's just the gasket that needs cleaning away and replacing, you could be back together and checking for leaks in less than an hour (if all goes well)

The leak is very slow and at times not there maybe due to temp tolerances of metals? Always checking it before going out. Then overnight now and again she dumps half the Rad on the garage floor. Bizarre. Its definitely coming from the pump gasket. Looks like running down left side in front of the sump. Thanks for the info will change pump gasket and silicon bypass hose.
