Colour of seat piping for 1949 MM?
Hi MM Messageboard folks,
Thanks for all your help with previous posting re seats.
New question.
My project is Mr Morris - a 1949 MM (Dec) in platinum grey, LUO 456.
I'm fairly confident the seats should be "beige".
But what colour for the seat piping? My view is brown? - as per Mr Newell's book?
Does anyone have a like original MM to confirm? Or any views on interior generally?
All comments most welcome!
Happy motoring,
Arcachon.

Many thanks for this.
Gives me a good idea of what 'beige' should look like!
Maroon piping on your seat - so I think it came from an MM, body colour maroon?
I'm going with brown piping for my platinum grey (Dec '49).
Any other thoughts most welcome.

The piping was that maroon colour until June July 1950 when the heater was introduced.[frame]

The seat piping matched the colour of the carpets

Did it? My carpets, original, are brown. The seat piping, original is maroon

Must take that point up with Graham. His Thames Blue car has green piping on the seats. My green car has green seats and green carpets but as it is 1952 it does not count.

Re: Colour of seat piping for 1949 MM?
Sorry
but as I have said, I can show with 'OJO' that not all black cars with beige trim had brown piping. But this thread does illustrate, as I have said many times before, the importance of preserving original cars, even if only to act as reference points.

That is what Frank is trying to do. Hard work sourcing parts for a 48 MM

Re: Colour of seat piping for 1949 MM?
Yes, I realise that Mike. What I was trying to do was emphasise the preserving of 'original' cars, i.e. those with all or most of their original parts, and unrestored, wherever possible. As you know, there are several total restorations around, and although rebuilt to what is believed to be the original specification, they may not be absolutely correct. If these cars are then used as reference points, matters could possibly become a little more unclear. However having said this, all credit to those who find a car which is in very poor condition and/or has been fitted with incorrect parts, and try to return it to original.

Re: Colour of seat piping for 1949 MM?
Firstly, many thanks to you all for help and comment on seat piping.
Any chance you could help me again? I have a supplementary question on door pulls.
Mr Morris (platinum grey, December 1949) still has the original horizontal pulls.
However at some stage they have been wrongly re-covered in green vinyl.
If the seats should be beige and the piping brown (which seems to be the consensus?) - what colour for the door pulls?
I've had a look at Mr Newell's book 'Series MM Super Profile' at page 50.
The door pulls appear to match the seat piping i.e. in contrast to the seat colour.
On that basis....possibly brown - to match the carpets?
Does anyone have an original for reference?
Thanks - and happy motoring ...

Re: Colour of seat piping for 1949 MM?
Our platinum grey Feb 1949 Lowlight has brown door pulls to match the brown piping on the seats. It has been off the road in dry storage since April 1968 and has covered just 26,960 miles, so i think that *might* qualify for an original reference maybe?Arcachon wrote:Does anyone have an original for reference?
