Wipermotor & bracket

Firstly I would like to thank the guys who helped me with the clutch problem, now I have a new problem as I am trying to fit the wiper motor & bracket beneath the dash and no way can I fit it into the 4 holes for the bracket and get the wiper gear boxes throug the holes in the body as I think the glove box ( which I havn`t got ) would foul the bracket. I have fitted it, and it tucks right in the corner of the body, have I the wrong wiper gear or what, I dismantled the car in 1978 (before some of you guys were born) and am having trouble putting thing back as they were, help please

The wiper motor fits to the bracket with a triangular pad with three rubber mountings. Easier to fit if you remove the steering wheel. Pull the rack with wheelbox spindles into the car which will give enough movement to fiddle the motor bracket around until the holes are lined up. Fit the inner bolts first and then take care not to drop the other bolts down the A post. Use a Philips screwdriver to line the holes up. You may find double jointed fingers useful.
When you have fitted the rack push the spindles back through the holes and tighten them. Check that the rack clamp bolts on the wheel boxes are tight and there is no movement in the rack outer case.

Yes its a fiddly job!! If you can get one of the 4 to line up the others will go in fairly easily. If you try and fit the furthest away side first it may be easier as you have so little room to work. The glove box liners are a specail shape so they dont hit the wiper motor.

I had to take mine out when trying to fit the bonnet hinges, so I would recommend fitting the bonnet first just in case you have to bring it out again......

This comment makes me think you are trying to fit it to the passengers side of the car?
It mounts on the drivers side of the car which may be why you are having problems?

Series 2
The MM type has brackets that screw through the dash to hold the wheelboxes in place rather than the aluminium bezel and lock nut on the outside of the body

There are 2 different wiper spindles on the Series MM. The later type push through the holes, then the bezel fits over the spindle and a nut is tightened down. As far as I know the S11 wiper assembly is the same as the later MM, in which case the driver's glove box on the later S11 would have to be removed. On the MM and early S11 the inst. panel has to be removed

On early cars the wiper wheelbox has to be fitted with the windscreen out, they have 2 screws going down from were the rubber sits. My car has one of each type so I assume it was supplied with only one wiper fitted, the old type on the drivers side and a series 2 wheel box on the passenger side!
