wobble nuts/bolts

HI every one
does any know where i can get wobble bolts/nuts so i can fit 4x100 wheels on my minor?

Dont do it! only fit 4" PCD wheels. There have been some horror stories of people sheering studs and the wheel coming off at speeds. There are a few different wheels in 4", slotmags, or minilite styles are the main.

Wobble bolts are perfectly safe as long as you have a fixed center point. The problem comes when the wheel center hole is larger than the hub center so the wheel won't locate properly. Unfortunately I don't think wobble bolts will work on a Minor as they use nuts to hold the wheels on, not bolts. As has been said already, you could go for something like slot mags, Ro-styles or get your wheels banded for extra width. You can also get a Ford based disc brake kit enabling a vast range of wheel posibilities. Hope that has helped you.

ok, i understand that wobble nuts are not are a good idea, can anyone tell me what process is undertaken in re-drilling the hubs and where can i get it done, because i have some really nice 4x100 pcd wheels that i would like to fit. BTW thanks for the info

If you want to re-drill the hubs then I would take them to a reputable engineering company in your area (check yellow pages etc). They would have to find the center of the hub then drill 4 new holes in the spaces between the existing studs. The back of these holes would need to be countersunk in order to fit new studs. The original studs should be removed and the holes welded up to add some strength back into the hub. You need to check the center bore size of the wheels you have because if this hole is far bigger than the center of the Minor hub then this may not be suitable. The center of the wheel helps to locate it onto the hub. If I were you I would ring Jono at JLH Minors as get his opinion as he knows far more than I do. Alternitavely find a good motorsport engineering company near you to discuss this. You could also think about getting some hub adaptors made up (google them).

It will be much safer and probably less expensive just to buy a set of wheels designed for use on a Minor.

I'm afraid this suggestion will not work with Minor hubs:- "They would have to find the center of the hub then drill 4 new holes in the spaces between the existing studs.".
There is not sufficient metal, which is obvious when you look at the hubs, the studs are fitted in a much thicker area of the hub.

As suggested sell your wheels and buy some that fit?

Alec you are right My bad. I would either buy a ford based disc brake kit or find some wheels that are a direct fit to the Minor hub.

i seem to recall in a previous thread in this subject, that the ford disc kits are ford discs but maintain the standard moggy PCD and that the new special hubs did not have much on them to allow you to take them out to 108 pcd.. but i could well be wrong..

Depends on the kit, JLH minor modifications sell both pcd's.

In theory, yes. In practice the adaptors may put too much force on the hubs/ bearings. Modern cars have far bigger hubs and bearings so can cope with the extra forces exerted by the spacers. Also they will push the overal track of the car out and may cause the outside of the tyre to scrub on the arch. It might be a 'try it and see' approach. Would be interesting to se if it works well and the price doesn;t seem that bad for custom made adaptors.

I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole! And is that price each - or for a pair ? NEW alloy wheels and tyres aren't much dearer! And no bodgery involved........

One way of modifying hubs when the PCD requires only a small change is to bore out the stud holes slightly larger then fit a top hat shaped plug. These are then redrilled to the correct PCD. For this to work you do need some clearance behind the hub for the extra thickness of the top hat plug.

The dimensions you use for everything is up to you to decide, but the principle works. I used this method to change a Toyota Celica axle to Ford stud spacing.
