Check the chassis code. 53-58 2nd letter = E for van, F for pickup. 58-71 3rd letter = V for van, U for pickup

It's very common that Van's got converted to pick ups, as the van back was prone to fall apart when the gutters rusted away.

I would recommend to contact club advisor (Rob Thomasson) to check what is the "norm" regarding DVLA procedures. DVLA is a big organisation and some of them don't know their own rules properly (e.g. post production convertibles put onto a Q plate - where the club was asked to intervene and remind DVLA of what is normal procedure). Alternatively try the LCV club - they specialise in LCV's so should know their stuff!

where to break down next?

I wonder can it matter much to the dvla what the back body is?
Certain that modern vans/flatbeds/campervans roll of the same line as cab and chassis.

I am still trying and trying to convince the dvla that the my vin does include a U for pick up as the computer says no....
