temp gauge,
i have bought a , jaeger temp gauge that has 3 connections on the back( two connections together and one on its own ) plus the part where you push the bulb into, I have been reading all the posts on here but it all seems to be about wiring 2 connections on the back does anybody know what the 3 are for, and also where i can buy a bulb holder to fit the gauge cheers

Re: temp gauge,
What colours are the wires?
Does the gauge need to run through a voltage stabiliser?
Have you got the matching sender unit?

Re: temp gauge,
bought it on ebay no sender with it ,dont know what car its off but was on the morris minor site so assumed it was off a minor, he said it was working, the 3 connections are 2 connected together and 1 on its own, it has a white face with c and h on it, will i be able to use a minor sender with it. cheers
Re: temp gauge,
Morris gauges were all Smiths so I doubt it came off a Minor and none had a temp gauge as standard anyway. The sensor will have to match the gauge as it works on resistance but you may get lucky with a standard sensor. You can get different sensors (look for the colour of the collar). The terminals that are joined will be the same internally so earth one side of the gauge and the other connection should go to the sensor. It shouldn't matter which way it is wired unless it is labelled as earth and sender or something like that.....

Re: temp gauge,
Jaeger and Smiths are one and the same, so it should work fine with the standard sender unit. One easy way to find out is to connect directly to the sender and live. The two connections will be for the voltage stabilized live connection, the gauge would normally be wired in parallel with other gauges, hence two wires. The gauge then earths through the sender (fitted at the front of the cylinder head)
There are at least two kinds of bulb holder, all easily available, post a picture of the back if you can.

Re: temp gauge,
thanks neil, your right the gauge is a smiths jaeger the imformation you gave me is excellent, it means i can now sort out the sender and test it, has cleaned up really nice, i cant show a photo, but where the bulb goes there is a tube sticking out the back about half an inch long the bulb slides inside that cheers
