Rock Salt and Anti-Freeze Poison – a Cautionary Tale.

Post by Blaketon »

I haven't put this in off topic because I feel it's too important ! I am no longer a member of MMOC and I no longer use this forum but feel the matter is too important, to let a disagreement with the moderators and MMOC get in the way. If the moderators wish to adapt the post as their own and close me down, I have no objection. I see the moderators have already edited my profile, so they may as well close me down.

I think all pet owners should read this (Though knowing what dogs can be like, I think it probably is mainly a dog thing; our late cat would never drink anything but milk  ) - http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/cla ... 110220112/. You will need to scroll down a bit !!

Thankfully I'm aware of these dangers, but grateful to you for taking the time to post.

I have heard before that cats will drink water with antifreeze in.

Rock salt is also an irritant to pets feet and can be ingested by them licking themselves (not just drinking water) so it's important to wash their feet / fur if you think they have been anywhere near rock salt. Rock salt is also harmful to the environment in other ways so lots of local authorities are now using safer products or mixing the salt with something else to minimise the effects. There are a number of pet-safe / environmentally friendly ice melting products available so if you have pets use one of these when clearing your drive rather than rock salt.
