Half Term Road Trip

Post by rsawatson »

It looks like I'll be doing a good few miles during the Feb half term (w/c 21 Feb) this year!

I think I'm driving up to Yorkshire to visit my grandparents for a couple of days and then back southwards to Aylesbury to visit my cousin who has recently moved there. I usually post on here when I'm going places in case anything interesting (Minor related or otherwise) is going on in the area at the time I'm about!

I know it's fairly quiet this time of year, but if there is anything that might be of interest please let me know :)

I'm in aston clinton (just outside aylesbury), but unfortunately i don't think there'll be anything minor-related going on - other than the final push to get mine on the road (i hope!)

Ah well, I thought I was optimistic to imagine anything might be happening.

Is your Minor an ongoing restoration or has it recently come off the road for repair work?

Well...
Bought her taxed and tested a year ago, while I was still 16, then started looking beyond the cosmetic work I knew it needed.
It came off the road around may, and was sorn in June when the mot ran out and I turned 17.
It's finally going back together now.
I passed my test on 8th November last year.
Just want it on the road again now :(
Check out the young owners' section btw.

Yes I know the feeling - mine was off the road for about 3 months whilst I caught up with all the mechanical problems and I couldn't wait to get her back on the road. Fortunately, she's run pretty much problem-free ever since apart from the fuel pump failing last year whilst overtaking on the motorway (not fun!) and the brakes failing late last year too (even less fun!).

I've got a few bits and pieces around the body that need touching up - my grille is in desperate need of replacement/respray, and the wheels could do with the once over, however otherwise pretty much ok apart from some chrome. I replaced three wings last year and had some welding done, and fortunately it passed last year's MOT with no advisories... not that you can always trust that as an indication.

Good luck with your car anyway. Maybe see you around at the National Rally or Minors on Tour this year? (This will be my first MOT - can't wait!)

MOTs... (mechanical ones!) what a waste! mine passed hers then broke down a mile down the road... spent 2 more weeks in the garage...

Yes last year the MOT tester failed to spot a split steering rack gaiter and a completely worn out trunnion, which I happened to repair in between its retest (it had failed originally solely on a brake imbalance...). It does make you wonder.

Sounds like you've had a bit of bad luck - what was wrong in the end? 2 weeks is a long time - was it a big job?
