Have things warmed up a bit now such that the electro action is occurring?

The positive bit (anode?) is looking quite small, I've got a feeling that the surface area plays a part in the reaction.

yes Marky, lovely day today, almost wished I had hired the compressor for a bit of paint spraying, but it soon turned cold quite early, soon as the sun went over the yardarm. I'll take note of your suggestion and get a bigger expendable bit in there.
Ive got the nearside one to do next. the leaf spring was easy to clear up of light surface rust. I'm painting it this time when its dry.

the brake shoes were a right fiddle to fit, but the most frustrating bit was trying without success to re fit the brake drum over the new shoes, there's a problem there soemwhere, the circumference of the drum seems to be tighter than the shoes.[frame]Image[/frame]

I get that sometimes. Thing to do is to make sure that the adjusters are slackened right off, the shoes are sat square and you aren't pushing the drum on at an angle

As above .. and If you " present " the hub, as close as you can, to the shoes and check the individual shoes are in the optimum position.
Inspecting from different angles you can see where the shoe/s might need a slight tap left or right ( in the grooves ) with a rubber mallet, to line up perfectly.

Putting masking tape over the brake linings, when fitting the shoes, means you can keep them clean from your greasy fingers.
Obviously remove the tape when all the springs, retaining pins/ clips, etc are fixed.

Try the top shoe round the other way.

I just had a thought, and went back to check. The springs are on the back of the shoes - phew!

thanks Guys, I slewed the car to angle the rear around for more room to work, I needed the whole truck under cover as Ive only one rest day left now and I don't want to leave it out in the rain while the rear wheel is off. Looking at the pre stripped nearside brakes, I can see that Les is right, I have the top shoe on back to front, (of course its the mirror view on this side).[frame]Image[/frame]

Like I say, the truck is to one side so I can't get to the offside to swap it around just yet, there's not room. Thats the limitation of a single garage.[frame]Image[/frame]

Markyb mentioned earlier about the anode, red terminal sacrificial metal, being rather small last time, so Ive cleaned up to silver bright metal the end of this old rear brake shoe to make a good contact, may as well use a nice heavy old bit I was going to scrap. right away It made a difference to increase visible activity.

while that bubbles away merrily, I went back inside to the warm and called ESM to order some bits and pieces like the clevis pins,different grommets,drum screws ect, I couldn't see on their website any reference to a grommet for the handbrake cables where they enter the cab through these hole pictured below. (rear wall, low down, either side of the transmission tunnel) They say they don't know about them and don't stock anything like it, do any pickup/van owners out there know what is used there, the holes will let in wet and draft I would have thought.[frame]Image[/frame]

I'm no expert on pick ups but if ESM don't stock one ( and the other usual stockists don't either ? ) then I would measure the hole size in the bodywork.Next the diameter of the handbrake cables and buy suitable sized grommets from a decent Motor factors.

yes that seems to the best alternative, as there doesn't seem to be an available morris 1000 part. The anode sacrificial metal takes quite a pounding during this process, wouldn't want to get them the wrong way around.[frame]Image[/frame]

David, there wasn`t a grommett fitted where the hand brake cables enter the cab.You need two handbrake cable guidesfrom ESM, hbk150

thanks for that tip, they'll be on my next order, this order arrived today,only ordered them from ESM yesterday. great overnight mail delivery. Ive placed the shorter front hose in the picture for comparison, the pickup rear hose is a about a 5th longer.[frame]Image[/frame]

for extra poke, Ive beefed up the anode a bit by doubling the mass, it's very effective, but the scrap metal looks like its been on the seabed for a generation and has become part of a reef.or as Rolf Harris says "can you tell what it is yet" Its speeding up the process, I'll soon have a nice clean backing plate.

its so cold the chemical reaction of the rust converter is dragging along, still, thats the rear nearside leaf spring cleaned and ready for some sealant paint when it eventually dries. Then I can bolt on the nice black brake plate.[frame]Image[/frame]
