Whats the best way to fit interior panels.
Ive just got the last 2 interior trim panels for my 2 door, they are the rear panels with built in arm rests. What I would like to know is, what is the best way to fit these panels????
The ones in my car at the moment are screwed to the car,all round the edge of the panels, using no4 countersunk zinc pozi drive screws and zinc cup washers,
Just wondering if anyone has done it different/ neater without the need for screws showing.
Thanks Mark

That sounds like what I did - I think the originals were like that, but without the cup washers!

I thought there might be some sort of clip, not unlike the driver and passenger door panels.

No, the rear quarter trim panel is just held in with screws! To make them less obvious you could paint the heads to match (or close) the vinyl trim colour. That will make the screws less visible.
OTOH, visible screws and bolts are all part of the Minors character- these are not modern cars! ;-)

Cheers John - all comments IMHO

How did you fix the two front panels in, the ones in the footwells.

I made new panels from hardboard. They are held in place by the parcel shelf end bolts and I have added 3 self tapping screws along the back edge

I did exactly the same as Mike. Regarding the scuttle panels

Not having a parcel shelf how would you get around that ? should a 1956 split screen have a parcel shelf as one was not fitted when I brought the car.

Re: Whats the best way to fit interior panels.
On the very late cars the front scuttle panels have an extra inch or so of cloth that is held on by clips then covered by the draught excluder around the door edge, so the only screw you see is the parcel shelf one.
Too many Minors so little time.....

A Series MM/S11 should have the short parcel shelf. If you remove the scuttle panels you will see a bracket with a screw thread in it which the bolt on the parcel shelf cross bar screws into.

Cheers no parcel shelf in this one must have been taken out at some point before I brought the car.
Re: Whats the best way to fit interior panels.
Both my Minors ('66 & '67) had screws with cupwashers on the rear panel/armrest & also the bit of the headlining under the window. Oh and holding the headlining wires and leathercloth over the inner wheelarch. Cupwashers easily got from B&! and other DIY placesalanworland wrote:That sounds like what I did - I think the originals were like that, but without the cup washers!

Re: Whats the best way to fit interior panels.
my car does not have the parcel shelf i removed it because it was just covered in rubbish. I find that the two or three small screws by the door are enough to hold it in place.
Re: Whats the best way to fit interior panels.
If you buy some cup washers, at the DIY, check the price of cup washers with screws too. I bought some recently in prepacks and it was cheaper to get the washers in a pack with screws. It stumped the staff.
