Morris Minor convertible values

Post by Brouchard »

Hello,
I have heard of a Morris Minor Convertible for sale.
But have since found out that it was a saloon that has been converted into a convertible.
What do I look for to know if it has been carried out properly and how do i put a value on such a car.
We already have a 1961 Morris Traveller modified for all round use,we know these are popular, versatile and very useful, what popularity does the convertible have.?
Any information would be appreciated.

Kind Regards
Mark.

Look for the triangular dash panel to A pillar strengtheners- these will be mig or plug welded in. And the B pillar should have a strengthening piece fitted as well. HAve a look to see how well they finished the top of the screen- should all look smooth and rust free there. If you can get the carpets up/ sill covers off, look for extra strength added to the inner sill step.

Oh, and jack the car up under the cross member and check that the door gap does not move. A solid convertible/chop top door gap should not show any (or a tiny few mm) movement when jacked. Mine doesn't move at all when jacked but then I fitted all new sills and floor pans!

As for the value, depends on condition, but I would say should be about half way between the value of a saloon and convertible in that condition bracket.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO
