Engine numbers, year of manufacture

Post by Paulus »

I have bought, a 2door moggy, first registered 21/03/1963. the registration certificate shows it as 948cc engine, the engine number is: 9M-U-H-623554. Chassis No: M/A2S3D-990203. Can anyone tell me if this is a 948 engine, as I thought all moggies post 1962 were 1098. :-?

Yes that is a 948cc high compression engine. It could have been
sold long after it was produced(probably a bargain as it was now superseded by the 1098). It's a lovely smooooooth engine.

the last 948 2 door minor produced was 990288, so yours should be a 948, and likely to be one of the last few dozen 948cc 2 door saloons which stopped production in September 1962
