Aluminium Speedo Surround

Post by tedlogan »

Hi im fitting a aluminium soeedo surroud and wings. The problem I have is the ignition has a raised surround in the dash. Has anyone fitted this before and what did you do, did you make the whole larger on the aluminium surround or did you bash the raised surround flat?
Im fitting on a 64 Traveller Thanks Ted

There should be a couple of slots in the ignition lock surround which allow it to be unscrewed before fitting the trim.

PS. Invest in a spell checker.

So the risen metal comes off, it looks as if its one piece. Must be thick paint stopping me from seeing the joint! A spell check would be useful!!

no yours is the earlier type that didnt have the surround, i suposse you could just flatten the dash around the ignition key.

The raised bit will be giving the dashboard some serious strength at that point----trying to flatten it will knock the whole dash into the engine compartment before you manage to make it flush!!!
