Post by morrisminorman »

Hi can anyone tell me if the MGB/Gt rear axle is the same width as the Morris Minor and what mods would be required to get it to fit

its a few inch shorter you need wheelspacers each side, just putting one on mine now, also handbrake cable different, needs modding of mgb one ,leaf spring brackets needed moving as mine were offset from mgb manufacturing fault (jig error was made on hundreds (commonly found on mg's when wide wheels were used ie(tyre caught the wing !!!!!) on one side ...if you do welding , patient and like playing with cars its doable....but ive put engine in from mg too

Ok mate am pretty good at welding the prob i have is that i intend to put modern alloy wheels on it which are wide and just fit inside the rear arches with 10mm spacers with very little clearance and almost touching the rear springs but i am putting a more powerful engine in it inorder to tow a small caravan therefore need additional power

I would be amazed if they would CORRECTLY fit Minor 4" PCD - or MGB 4.5" PCD..............

No there is a very slight difference of 1to 2mm and with the larger studs to take into account the spacers you can get 1/2 mm adjustment on each stud the MG Zr fitment on the multi fit wheels is very close to the moggie PCD

What you have done is extremely dangerous........... Wheels designed for 100mm PCD MUST NOT be used on the Minor 4" PCD. The studs are being forced to bend - and they WILL snap.

No - you haven't offended me! But I am worried about your safety - and all other road users in your area !!
Seriously - people who have done this have had the wheels come off - it is NOT a safe thing to do............

Minor wheel studs are pretty marginal even for correct pcd wider wheels, and I would have to echo bmcecosse's advice regarding fitting 100mm pcd wheels to them. They will break, pull the thread off etc etc which will cause you to lose a wheel. After the crash, you will find a new relationship with your insurers - especially if anyone is hurt.
