Re: considering front disc conversion
I've got a marina disk brake conversion to the front and 8'' at the back, is it worth upgrading the rear brakes?

Re: considering front disc conversion
Will,
Unless you are carrying very heavy loads on a regular basis, the standard rear brakes on a Minor are plenty good enough for all applications. Under very heavy braking, the 7" rears can lock up, and 8" rears could make that more likely, so I would not 'upgrade' them. I have 7" rears with Mintex competition linings, and a pressure limiting valve in the rear circuit to prevent that happening.

Re: considering front disc conversion
Discs and 8" drums are more than sufficient unless your Minor has been substantially modified. Even with a 1275 that's probably enough braking force...remember that early Minors had 7" drums all around, and if their brakes were in serviceable condition, they could stop the car fairly quickly.

Right, I'll probably leave it as it is then seeing as I'm only running it with a 1098. Unless that anti lock up mod is easy enough to do? do you have any info on that?

Re: considering front disc conversion
8" rear drums made for a very good handbrake action on my rally Minor - great for handbrake turns. And - they were nicely balanced with the 9" front drums. Trouble with discs is that they need high hydraulic pressure - and so the rears will lock up before the fronts are doing very much braking - nasty! Minis and 1100s were fitted with pressure regulating valves on the rear subbies (not the same one - but near enough) - hard to find now at reasonable cost. I had some - but sold them all a while back......

Re: considering front disc conversion
I doubt it, you can lock all four on drums without a servo on a dry road..

Re: considering front disc conversion
i've got standard 1098 brakes but a (dreaded useless pointless heavy) servo helping them along, and 185 tyres, and i never brake hard enough to lock them up in the dry. the wet on the other hand... she gets a bit slithery then!
