Lucas parts

My 3rd lever lever type indicator switch has lasted just 2 weeks. The contacts on these chinese jobs are just too flimsy (and the colour coding on the wiring very hard to see). Does anyone know where one can buy new original 'old stock' Lucas parts?

NOS parts from ebay might be your best bet. I couldn't agree more- repro parts are rubbish.

To my knowledge the 'Lucas' name is being leased from TRW to a West Midlands company based in Coleshill. To my understanding anything looking new is from this company:

It is their own designed components and they are Lucas in name only, this is not the original Birmingham company, that is now part of TRW:

New old stock would be the best way forward. But to be honest if something only lasted two weeks I would send it back... and keep sending it back until they get it right. Some people though do question though, if the original Lucas components had been as good as it's competitors then the original company would still be in business.

There was nothing wrong with original Lucas parts - many many Minors still running about on the original equipment. Possibly went out of business because the parts were TOO good ie too expensive to manufacture and folks wouldn't pay the price when cheaper (in every sense) parts were available............ Are you sure there isn't something wrong with your car's electrics causing the switch to burn out so quickly ?

They tell me that their stock is genuine Lucas, no copies. Can be a bit expensive but you get what you pay for.

If I return the item to the supplier my car is off the road until I get a replacement which will be exactly the same. (I have dismantled it and bent the tin strip back into shape so it works again - for the moment) Mike - regards - I am buying those new genuine Lucas parts but they are not made like the originals. I am bidding on ebay for NOS switches.

Just what I suspected, genuine Lucas repro....
Ebay is as I mentioned probably the best way forward. When you get one can you take a photo of both side by side highlighting the problem area? I had intended replacing my indicator stalk but I think I'll keep what I have at present.

Hand signals? You must be joking.
The problem w/hand signals is that 80-90% of the drivers on the road these days don't understand them.
They think that you're just waving at somebody or drying your nail polish.

Hello all,

just to say I still, on occasion, use hand signals and most of the time they are recognised and appreciated.
I'm referring to when I'm travelling down a main road and intend to turn into a minor road, if there is someone waiting to come out, I'll make eye contact and use a hand signal to reinforce my indicators.
