A New Young Morris Owner seeking advice...

Post by pyebibby »

Hello!
I have taken custody of my brothers 4dr 1000... My girlfriend and I are quite looking forward to going off for picnicks and doing couply things in it... The only problem is... I dont own any particular Hat that will suit me whilst driving... Any Morris drivers wear particular items when you go out for a day? Or am i just being mad and still trying too live in the 50's? (thats saying something considering i was born in the 90's!)
Thanks Pyebibby

1stly enjoy the car, the perfect driving gear in my eyes is what ever you happen to be wearing.

However depending on how rural you are maybe a nice flat cap (farmer thing).

Also if it was me i'd give that grill a quick lick of hamerite smooth cream to hide that rust as in my eyes it would make a tidy looking car appear much smarter which is was always a benefit when I was your age in preventing mates from being careless when in/around the car. Please forgive the spelling it's late.

Rather than worrying about having the right hat, if you intend on driving the Minor in the wet and through the winter- a decent application of anti rust wax is essential on the underside and in all cavities to avoid the car rusting away.

Otherwise, just picnics on dry days and keep the car garaged.

And as for the grille, rather than use Hammerite (which you'll have to re-do every year), the best solution is to strip down the front panel assembly, get the grille blasted to remove ALL the rust and etch primed. Then paint it in white (OEW or SnBW) cellulose. That will tidy the front of the car up a lot!

I like that idea and i think she would too! Especially as she was a little dissapointed when i told her she couldnt invaid the boot with her stuff due too the fact it is filled generally with everday tools too keep her going! :)

You could wear a trilby, there's enough headroom unlike most modern cars. Flat 'ats look a bit old codgerish and deerstalkers look daft!.

I apologise for my rudeness in my last posting on this subject

Talking of hats in cars, I can't recall too many people wearing hats in saloon cars in the sixties. One noteable exception was the headmaster of Bourne County Secondary school, a certain Mr Day nearing retirement, who used to drive his grey Austin Cambridge, wearing his dark grey trilby, over the playing fields and behind the changing rooms presumably to check there was no naughtiness going on, like smoking or snogging with the girls.

Best wishes to all for 2011 and happy Minor motoring.

Get one of each type, Ive got a deer stalker in the traveller (Ive even worn it a couple of times.......) theres a brown trilby in the lowlight and I quite often wear a flat cap. And of course we all need a panama for the summer, if you want to get ahead get a hat!! Has anyone ever seen Andy (Sidney 61) without a hat??[frame]Image[/frame]
