Quick question - windscreen washer pump

Post by PulpitNeil »

Will this:

fit in a moggy? The one I have in mine is the same diameter, but a bit shorter. It's broken, only pumping a trickle of water, and only very occasionally.

Thanks,
-Neil

Don't see why not - but are you sure that's the problem ? Usually it's a blocked suction filter in the bottle - or blocked jets of course.

Thanks.

By suction filter I'm guessing you mean the non return valve? I replaced mine and still nothing. Replaced the old cruddy jets too. I can't find leaking anywhere from the pipes either, so it must be the pump!

And the T cross joint pipe behind the odometer, some times they are blocked!

I replaced a leaky wash bottle recently only to find that now I wasn't getting any water at the screen. It turned out to be the non return valve in the newly supplied bottle. Glad I kept the original valve. Repro parts!!

I replaced the entire system with a 1.2l bottle with built in electric pump in mine yesterday. The squirt easily reaches the top of the screen on demand with a toggle switch by my right knee. The thumb pump gave me nothing but trouble and totally failed a couple of weeks ago. The electric system was just over a tenner and easy to fit. It came with a big red push button switch too which I'm considering wiring up for a push button start when I have an afternoon free :D
