First motion shaft
Anyone done a gearbox rebuild? The books tell you, after removing third motion shaft, to drift first motion shaft out from the back but the shaft has a toothed cone at the rear end which prevents it coming out of the front of the box. And when its out does that cone and the gear ring between it and the bearing have to be removed to get the bearing off?

Re: First motion shaft
welcome!
yeah haynes says remove forward but it wont because of that gear on the back. you have to have everything else out of the box casing and, after removing a large circlip that is on the bellhousing side, push the 1st motion inside the casing.
i didnt change the bearing myself, but i think that can come forwards rather than touching that gear. infact that gear may be part of the shaft. don't take my word for it on that front.
but the 1st motion assembly definately has to go into the casing rather than forwards into the bellhousing.

As above! I think the 948 shaft can come out the front - but not the 1098 version. Don't believe everything you read in Haynes!

Thanks Chris. Anyone else had experience of removing that bearing?
