door handle fitting

Post by ruth »

Hello All

On my Traveller front door handles I have a gap where they fit which I don't believe should be there? The chrome handle leavers within an elongated chrome oval plate which has a rectangular section cut out of it. However there is quite a gap in this area which would let water into the inner door area. Should there be a further plate or rubber stopper here please? Would it be possible to see a close up photo of such a door/handle?

Many thanks and apologies for all the questions!

Ruth

If you have the chrome oval plate, it sounds about right - there isn't a seal at the door handle, however the normal door window rubbers will let in far more water anyway (the rubber lip seal rubbers stand an improved chance of keeping the water out of the door)
The bottom of the door should have drain holes, and on many cars the door bottoms have just rotted out...

I see! I will have to be very careful when washing Dolly then as I usually use a hose pipe<g> These doors have been replaced in the last two years and seem in fairly good condition. Should we spray some waxoyl inside the door panel itself to coat the interior of the panel do you think?

Hello Ruth -YES Spray the inside by all means it will do no harm and will protect the door panel from the inside,I tend to take the door cards off about every twelve months just to check that everything is as it should be. As long as the holes are open and clear washing the car with a hose pipe will do no harm, Go on make Dolly shine.Best Regards Twinkle the Traveller and BILL. :P
