Hi Guys,
What is the correct horn for a late 1956 Series II Splitscreen? Should it be a Lucas Altette or a Windtone type?
Cheers
John

Re: Horn
The windtone horns, a matching pair of high and low note horns were available as an export option. I have them fitted to my Series MM and they sound nice but they take up a lot of under bonnet space on brackets either side of the radiator and consume a lot of battery power so the wiring needs to be in good condition.
I believe that the Altette horn comes in many different forms. For more info go to "Taff the horns" website[frame]

Ahh! I've got the Windtones, and can I just say that I think they're absolutely marvelous? They are. I think they're my favorite part of my Moggie. Of course, I think due to wiring issues, one of them doesn't sound right now...

The way to a man's heart may be making food, but the way to my heart is buying me car parts!
Come read about my Minor at An American Moggie.

Re: Horn
Try connecting the horn direct to the battery to test it.
Take the dome off and you should find an adjuster nut. A bit of twiddling may restore the note

Re: Horn
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the information. The photo's of the location and the horn brackets were most helpful. I've managed to pick up a windtone type horn, supposedly from a 1960 Minor. I can't justify the cost of an Altette type horn, and the car is modified anyway so it won't be too much of an issue
Cheers

Re: Horn
To get the full benefit of the windtones you need the matching pair. You will find an H or L stamped on the trunk. You should be able to buy either type of horn for a few pounds at an autojumble
