battery problems?

Post by cadetchris »

primrose has developed battery problems i think. i dont think its holding its charge. when i get it started, and rev it, the light visibly become brighter, so i would assume that the control box is working, so could it just be the batter?
its one of halfrauds finest batteries, thankfully we still have the receipt i think,
should i go back and explain that this is the 3rd time in 3 years that one of their batteries have gone or just buy a new one?

If the ignition light stays on then the battery is not being charged. It is not a battery fault, check the dynamo.

The ignition light does go out, so it must be the battery. As for the dynamo, that works, i put my hand on it the other day, touched the terminals and got one heck of a shock from it. Ill have to take the battery back to halfords and get then to change it again

Errr - you can't get a shock from the dynamo! Assuming the car is getting some decent running - and not just being started up every day and left to idle for a few minutes every day - then yes, right back to Hellfrauds and DEMAND a new battery!

Put your meter across the battery when the engine is running and check you are getting at least 14.5 volts going in. Otherwise dynamo needs attention.....

The shock you received was probably static. There is no way that you would get a shock from 12V and 25 amps (approx).
In your 1st post you said that the ign light grew brighter when you revved the engine, in the next post you said that it went out.

I assumed the 'light' being referred to - was the headlights......showing that the dynamo was generating.

yes, the headlights grew brighter when the engine was revved and the ignition goes out.

i have however found the receipt dated july 2007, which was 3 years 6 month ago, so regrettably the battery is out of its 3 year guarantee period. which is a pain, so off to halfrauds i go tomorrow to buy another one.

Maybe when he was trying to touch the dynamo he may have put his other hand on one of the HT leads
