This is a link to one of the 'urban exploration' websites that are around at the minute, they've 'explored' a scrapyard in SE London just scroll down and look at the number plate of the minor thats in there SFH 2 if its still valid thats about 8 grands worth of plate.

An interesting find! Some of the stuff there doesn't look in too bad a condition, especially the A60/Oxfords inside.
The Moggy looks like it's got a squashed roof though so is probably no good.

Well theres no holes for the missing digits, so I'd expect it is the original plate, though likely that the car has been off the road from before the DVLA computor records hence the 'not recognised' response when checked.
If someone had the car and restored it, they could probably get the plate on a non transferable basis if theres some proof that it does belong on that car like paperwork / tax disc etc.
Still no 8 grand though sadly! Look good on a car though.

Ah, someones already nabbed it then....
Had the same when i bought a collection of part / unrestored Minors and spares last year, and there was a bootlid with a 2 number 2 letter reg on it. Was quite exciting for a moment working out which of the 5 cars it could have been for (no V5s and lots of bits..) then discovered it was actually on a 3 year old Jaguar

Yes, here it is...
Not on the road at the moment but just had a new master cylinder but needs a bit of fettling - rust behind headlights on front wings and possible sticky brake calipers and blowing exhaust. Keep thinking about selling it, but a drive round sat in its comfy armchairs, listening to the silky smooth six makes me want to keep it....

How do you find out which car a number plate is on if you don't know in the first place? I'd love to know where the number plate on my first minor is now!

Interior has been retrimmed in shiny vynil. Presumably the fuzzy velour trim fell apart in the usual BMC way and someone must have spent a fair bit on having this done as its quite a professional looking job. Bit lighter than the door trims which are more maroon but it all works together quite well. Not sure if they did anything with the stuffing but they're the most comfortable seats I've ever had in a car, though I've never had a Wolsesey before (other than a Hornet, years ago and that wasn't comfortable by any stretch of the imagination!) Had a couple of Morris 2200s in the past and they seemed much firmer on the backside area...
Looks like a fine collection of BMC front wheel drive cars you have there btw!
cheers

Re: Heres one that would be worth saving!
Not sure about the seats. We've had an 18/85 inthe family which if I recall correctly had flatter seats without the armrests and were leather faced.
I've had it for about three years now, though its been off road forthe last year with brake problems. (Now has a new master cyl, but suspect the calipers need rebuilding as it drags a lot). Previous owner tried to sell it me for a while, then he decided the head gasket had gone due to the clouds of white smoke and the price was reduced so that it was rude to refuse it. Refileld the coolant and it seems ok. Done a couple of thousand miles in it anyway...
Still need s afew things, such as the speedo angle drive replacing and some paint, butother than the scabby front wings it seems very solid. I've towed the caravan up to the NEC Classic Car Show three years ago and a couple of occaisions recovered Morris Minors with an A frame!

Re: Heres one that would be worth saving!
They're 18/85 ones. Sixes had fabric ones as standard. Looks like it would have had purple ones to match the door cards (same as Reckless).IaininTenbury wrote:Not sure about the seats.

Sixes certainly do make great tow cars. Hoping to use mine to take an ADO16 or ADO44 to shows when finished.
Re-brake problems: might be an internally collapsed hose, I had that on my A40.[frame]

Good point that about the hoses, I'll have a look. Looks a bit like a full brake rebuild at this rate...
Both your seats and my seats look very different to the Wolseley 18/85 we used to have in the family. These were leather faced and much flatter, though later cars (this was a '68) may have gone vynil possibly.
