Pick up Restoration (Part 2)

Ive replaced the washing line peg with a metal clamp to keep the red terminal secure, the peg gave up and the two poles were no longer poles apart, one fuse change later, I checked the heater front panel and its not really suitable being painted in heat resistant material, so I selected this rather rusty petrol filler pipe, this is an original component from the farm rescued pickup so its rusty inside the tube, ideal, as I can't get at the rust in there with my wire brush. So here goes, lots of bubbles and rusty water.well brought up swifty, great activity on a cold winters afternoon. [frame][/frame]

while that bubbles away making the pet pipe nice and clear of rust I'm left wondering how to save these stencils, they're original and I hate to lose them. My options are fairly limited though, the paint around them is cracked amd peeling off so I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and go for a total re finish with heat resistent paint.[frame][/frame]

I wonder if you can buy text stencils and use a paint over them to match the original finish ? Ive just done my sidestripes this way using a similar method and that worked a treat.

Thats pretty much the only way to do it afaik

There used to be a product called Letraset I think which was pressure transfered letters

How hot are you expecting the heater to get?
Heat resistant paint sounds like overkill to me.

well that makes things easier if I don't need heat resistent paint for it, the petrol pipe is almost there, the rust just scrubs out with hot water. Then back in it goes for the final rusticles.[frame][/frame]

Digging through my box of bits and pieces I rediscovered the petrol filler cap, battered on the outside...[frame][/frame]

rusty on the inside it makes a sorry sight, but its the original one from the farm wreck, so its got Morris history, got to use it for that fact alone. Now then, I wonder if its candidate for the electro dip? the top is chromed though.[frame][/frame]

nice day for a little bit of sledging today, the pickup would have been very useful for carrying wet wellies and my snow covered Toboggan.[frame][/frame]

next bit in for the electro dip, It would seem that the cold slows this process down quite a bit, may have to wait for warmer weather to continue, can anyone remind me what this valve is?[frame][/frame]

Heater valve, lives at the back of the cylinder head.

Cold slows down every chemical reaction, how about starting with warm water and insulating the container, even just putting a lid on will help.

Its is the advance and retard pipe, screws on at the thermostat and goes between the carb and the top of the distributor.

check the heater valve by blowing through it and closing the lever before wasting time refurbishing it
if it does not work and you need to get a new repro one then the body will need fileing so the rocker covcer can go on
the vac pipe body fits on the thermo stat housing stud

thanks for that Dennis. The top of the heater matrix, the pipe looks blocked up with crud you would see in the bottom of a kettle.[frame][/frame]
