Hi all.
I am having a new roof fitted to my convertible and have decided to replace the ash header at the same time.
Does anyone think I should treat the wood before it is fitted and if so what should I use?
I am worried that if I treat it, the preserver etc may soak through to the fabric of the new roof.
Someone has suggested using yacht varnish.
You advice would, as ever be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Simon

Re: Convertible ash header
Hi Simon ,i wouldn,t use varnish or any surface protection as over the years it will only crack and split therefore loosing its purpose. If you really want to protect the header rail then use somthing like Thompsons Water Seal, its clear and soaks deep into the timber, leaves no resdue when dry and it claims a 25 year garrentee hope this helps by the way when you get or see the header rail any chance of looking at where the butterfly bolts threaded receiver is to see how its placed insitu as my tourer,s drivers side threaded insert is stripped so i,d like to know if i can stripout and replace, regards Mike.

Simon,
Any chance of sending me that as I need to replace the same in the near future? Are they glued in? What about the quality of the repro parts?
Thanks
